PRTC Scholarship Requirements

 

Eligibility Requirements

Applicant must live in the PRTC service area of Jackson and Owsley Counties.

 

Applicant must be a graduating senior and must enroll full time in a post secondary institution or
higher education program as a beginning freshman in the Fall of the award year.

 

Selection Criteria

30 % Financial Need

25 % Academic Achievement

25 % Personal Essay

10 % Letters of Recommendation

10 % Community Involvement

 

Application Process

Application must include personal information i.e. ACT score, income, rank in class, GPA, etc. 
(This information will be used to help scorers determine need, dependability, academic standing, etc.)

 

Application will be downloadable from PRTC website; published in our newsletter; newspapers,
and distributed to each school personally by PRTC’s scholarship contact person.

 

Application must include short essay which details the student’s plans for the future. 
An example would be “what do you want to do with your life/how do you plan to utilize your degree?”

 

Application must also include photo of student to be published at the discretion of PRTC.

 

Application must have an attached high school transcript.

 

Application must include two references:  1 personal reference, 1 academic reference.

 

Application deadline will be April 15 of the award year. 

 

Scoring

Scoring will be done by the Retired Teacher Associations in each county. 
If this is not possible, a scholarship committee will be created to score all applications. 
Scoring of applications will remain anonymous. 

 

Scholarships will be awarded by General Manager or designee at each school’s awards ceremony. 
Six scholarships will be awarded in each county, for a total of twelve.

 

Checks will be made payable to the recipient’s school of choice once the PRTC business office has received registration information
from the school/student, unless circumstances deem otherwise as determined by the General Manager.
